Various stages of growth (1)

Germination

The regeneration of plots takes place according to a method referred to as natural seeding. A few oaks, called seed trees, act as breeders, producing thousands of acorns that will create a new stand.

Saplings

15-30 years – The competition is very strong among young oaks.  Natural selection prevails, and the weakest trees die.  The foresters enhance natural selection by favouring the growth of the most beautiful and vigorous oaks. The trees grow very closely together and form a gaulis, or sapling stand.
